In this performance, the Dutch soprano Laila Cathleen Neuman applies the theatrical principles of the Amsterdam actor and painter Johannes Jelgerhuis (1770-1836) to the melodrama Proserpina: a nineteenth-century version of the Roman myth, created in a collaboration between Goethe and his music director Carl Eberwein. In this arrangement for chamber ensemble by Artem Belogurov, Neuman and ensemble Postscript closely work together to create a rendition of this work in which music and spoken text complement each other.
Dr. Jed Wentz will hold an introductory lecture to the performance, in which Goethe's ideas and the historical acting methods used in this version of the melodrama will be discussed.

In deze voorstelling past ze de theatrale principes van de Amsterdamse acteur en schilder Johannes Jelgerhuis (1770-1836) toe op het melodrama Proserpina: een negentiende-eeuwse versie van de Romeinse mythe, ontstaan uit een samenwerking tussen Goethe en zijn muziekdirecteur Carl Eberwein.
